About
Who is Bailey Harrington?
I'm a line editor, copy editor, and proofreader based in the Pacific Northwest. When I'm not editing, I can usually be found reading a book, buying irresponsible numbers of books, or trying to figure out how to bend time and space to fit more books on the same number of shelves.
At GreenPen Editing, I work with publishers, independent authors, and game designers in a range of genres. I particularly enjoy working on and reading speculative fiction, narrative nonfiction, and experimental books.
I'm now a recovering academic, but I spent most of the past decade as a graduate student and then postdoc in Europe. My first editing clients were international graduate students like myself. I now work with academic authors at all levels the world over on journal articles, grant applications, and other scholarly writing. I specialise in editing academic manuscripts from genetics, biology, and medicine, which are directly related to my research background, though I do take on work in other fields. A list of recently published articles I have edited can be seen on the Academic Editing page of my website.
I've spoken on panels about academic editing at several national editing conferences, including ACES and EFA, and I have served as the Programming & Events Chair and Book Club Co-Chair for the EFA/Editors Canada Academic Editing Chapter since its launch in September 2022.
Academic Qualifications
I hold a PhD in Genetics and Molecular Medicine from the University of Edinburgh, where I studied genetic variation in human skeleta. Prior to that, I spent two years completing the Erasmus Mundus MSc in Forensic Science in Spain, Portugal, and the UK.
My undergraduate years I spent at Texas A&M University, where I finished a BS in Forensic & Investigative Sciences and a BA in Psychology and minored in French.
